Babysitter arrested in child abuse case

Indianapolis (WISH) -- A 45-year-old woman was arrested Tuesday following an investigation into alleged child abuse that a family member says left the baby with cigarette burns on her feet.
24-Hour News 8 has learned the 6-month-old baby is in Riley Hospital for Children. The police report says the child suffered a fractured leg, had cigarette burns to her feet, and was bruised.
Police have arrested the child's babysitter, Madelyn Smith, Tuesday on charges related to the investigation.
According to police, Smith was caring for the baby and her two year old sister over a 4 day period. Smith lives at a south side apartment complex.
When family members picked up the girl last Saturday, they knew the baby was in trouble.
According to police report, the babysitter told family members it was the 2 year old who injured the infant.
Family members say the injuries are too severe for them to come from a toddler.
